Exports of cookies can grow more than in 2008

The manufacturers of cookies believe that the exports this year can grow more than in 2008, in spite of the crisis. Last year, the revenue with the external market was of US$ 114 million, registering growth of 24,51% on the US$ 91,6 million sold in 2007.  
One of the strategies is to enlarge the changes with Central and Soth American markets. Until the next 18, the National Association of the Industry of Cookies (Anib) and of the Union of the Industry of Nutritious Masses and Cookies of the State of Sao Paulo (Simabesp)promote a round of negotiations with entrepreneurs of several countries of the area in São Paulo, in partnership with to Apex-Brazil.  
 
According to the president of the Union, Jose dos Santos Reis, this is the first time that the entities bring to Brazil international buyers for the section of cookies.  
 
The forecast is that the participation about 30 buyers of countries as Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Porto Rico, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Honduras, Cuba, Nicaragua and Guatemala.  
 
The Brazilian companies that will participate in the round of businesses are: C&F International (Vela Vista), Cory Alimentos, Bauducco, Mabel, Selmi, Itamaraty, Faville, Millen (Marindoces, Santa Edwiges and Erlan), Pacific (Dunga and Charlotte), Chelkem, General Brands, J. Macedo, Jasmine and Good Quality. 
 
In the programming of the encounter it is a visit to the factory of Bauducco, where the importers can prove the technological capacity of the Brazilian companies. “We want to show because Brazil is the second largest world manufacturer of cookies”, explains  Reis. 
 
The inves at the Latin American markets completes the commercial strategy of the sector of covering all of the continents. In the first quarter of the year, also in partnership with to Apex-Brazil, Brazilian manufacturers of cookies participated in international events as the fair ISM (Germany) and Flavors of Brazil (Dubai). In June it will be Fancy Food time (New York) and, in August, Confitexpo, in Guadalajara (Mexico).  
 
Angola continues being the main buyer of Brazilian cookies, representing 22% of the total. They follow Paraguay, with 13%; Argentina, with 9%; Uruguay, with 8,9% and United States, with 7,7%. Latin America as a whole represents 49,77% of the exports of the sector. 
 
The section of cookies closed the year of 2008 with a growth of 4,1% in volume, what corresponds the more than 46 thousand tons or the “a new factory with 1.200 employees”, as it compares Reis. The estimate of the section for 2009 is of a growth of 2,2% in volume. “As for the value, we should accompany the inflation”, says. 
 
The section finished 2008 with about 1.177 million tons, while in 2007 the marketed volume was of 1.131 million tons, 1,7% above 2006, when it approximated to 1.112 million tons. This production maintains Brazil as the second largest market of cookies in the world, being below only of the United States. The other countries of the ranking are England, Germany and France.
