" A (H1N1) Influenza" doesn't reduce exports of suine meat

The exports ofsuine meat in April remained strong and they reached 53,99 thousand tons, an increase of 10,82% in relation to equal period of 2008. The news on the epidemic of the Influenza (H1N1) didn't echo in the exports of the month. Also in the internal market, the sales continue inside of the normality.
The expectation now is related to the visit of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Peking, in China, where, on May 19, he will meet with Hu Jintao for the signature of several bilateral agreements. The president of the Brazilian Association of the Producing Industry and Exporter of Suine Meat (Abipecs), Pedro de Camargo Neto, that will accompany Lula, hopes to see in the occasion the opening of the Chinese market consolidated for the Brazilian exports. The agency Chinese Administration of Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) accomplished veterinary mission to Brazil in November of 2008 to evaluate the section. Brazil already gave every requested documentation, lacking only the final approval on the part of the Chinese authorities that soon afterwards, they should enable Brazilian productors.
From January to April of 2009, Brazil exported 188,79 thousand tons (US$ 377,25 million). In volume, the Brazilian exports in the period were 18,11% superiors to the one of equal period of 2008. However, in value, there was a fall of 4% (US$ 393,35 million of January to April of 2008).
Russia, main customer of the Brazilian suine meat bought, in April, 27 thousand tons, 11% the more than in April of 2008. In value, however, there was fall of 28,52%: US$ 54,78 million in April of this year in relation to US$ 76,63 million in the same month of last year.
From January to April, the embarkments to the Russian market reached 89,80 thousand tons (US$ 185,39 million). There was a growth in volume of almost 41%, in the comparison with equal interval of 2008. In value, however, a fall of 2,42% was verified in the period.
In April, the medium price of export of the Brazilian suine meat fell 28,18% in comparison with April of 2008.
Hong Kong was the second main buyer in April. The Brazilian sales to that market were of 11,27 thousand tons (US$ 21,29 million), a variation of 19,72% in volume and 4,47% in value, in relation to equal interval of 2008.
Angola passed to the third place in the ranking of the largest importers, having acquired, of January to April of this year 11,18 thousand tons (about of US$ 21 million), a growth of 106,44% in volume and 175,82% in value, in the comparison with equal period of 2008.
To Ukraine, the sales continue in accentuated fall: of January to April, there was a reduction of 65,17%, in relation to January-April of 2008.
Argentina was the fourth largest Brazilian buyer, following by Singapore.
In the last twelve months, of May of 2008 to April of 2009, Brazil exported 558,37 thousand tons (US$ 1,46 billion).
