Brazil is the third largest producing of fruits of the world

Brazil is one of the three larger producing of fruits of the world. The production overcame 43 million tons in 2008, what represents 5% of the world production. With that balance, the Country is behind just of China and of India. About 53% of the Brazilian production is destined to the market of processed fruits and 47% to the market of fresh fruits. Today exist a potential esternal market accessible to the Brazilian horticulture of 28,3 million tons. That is the panorama of the Brazilian export according to the Brazilian Institute of Fruits (Ibraf).
Now the Brazilian production is focused for tropical, subtriopical and temperate fruits because the big territorial extension, geographical position, ground and climatic conditions. There are 500 varieties of plants producing of eatable fruits and 220 species of native fruitful only in the Amazonian. The section uses 5,6 million people, what is equal to 27% of the agricultural labor. It generates opportunities from two to five workstations in the productive chain for cultivated hectare and it is based in small and medium properties.
Among the main fruits exported by Brazil in 2008, grape occupies the first place, with 172 thousand tons, following by the melon, with 153 thousand tons, mangos, with 119 thousand tons and apple, reaching 80 thousand tons. Those numbers are favorable to the Brazilian market when compared to the numbers of the world export. In that last analysis, the melon is the more disputed product in the world exports, with 212 thousand tons, following by the mango and banana, with 134 thousand and 131 thousand tons, respectively.
