New metallurgical complex in Minas Gerais will produce a million tons

The management of the National Bank of Economical and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing to the Vallourec and Sumitomo Tubos of Brazil Company in the value of R$ 449 million.
The resources are destined to the steelworks implantation in Jeceaba (MG), for the annual production of 1 million tons of steel in bars and for lamination of 600 thousand tons of tubes of seamless steel.
The beginning of the activities of the plant is foreseen for middles of 2010, with the entrance in operation of the unit of lamination.
The Metallurgical compound of Jeceaba looks for to assist to the future demand growth for the tubular products of high quality for the industry of petroleum and gas, complementing the mix of products of steel of their controlling ones and reinforcing the strategic partnership between the groups Vallourec and Sumitomo.
Jeceaba was conceived as an industrial district to shelter a steelworks and a net of suppliers of medium and small sizes.
The place has good supply of electricity and gas and it is close to the rail net, facilitating the export of the products through Itaguai Port. The implantation of the enterprise is foreseen to happen along approximately 30 months, with closing forecast in the first semester of 2011.
Their facilities were projected to minimize the generation of emissions of gases, liquid and residues and 95% of the water used in the process will be recycled. The production of the iron will be made using vegetable coal, originating from the eucalyptus forests planted by V&M Forest.
Vallourec and Sumitomo Tubos of Brazil (VSB) was founded in January of 2007, as a result of a joint venture celebrated between the groups Vallourec and Sumitomo.
