Chicken exporters bet in the growth in 2009

In 2008, the Brazilian exports of chicken increased 11% in the comparison with 2007, amounting embarkments of 3,6 million tons. In this period, the exchange income added US$ 6,9 billion, what represents an increase of 40% in the same comparison.
According to data of the Brazilian Association of the Producers and Exporters of Chickens (ABEF), published on this Tuesday (13), in December the Brazilian exports of chicken meat added embarkments of 267 thousand tons, what corresponds a fall of 11% in relation to the same month in 2007. The exchange income in the month totaled US$ 427 million, a fall of 18% on December of 2007.
The section commemorates the new record, but it considers that result could have been better were not the impacts of the international financial crisis, starting from October. Impact this that took the entity to recommend a reduction in the production destined to the export, to avoid an offer excess.
However, the expectations for 2009 in the section continue optimists. Abef foresees growth of 5% in the embarked volumes. “The crisis is not of demand for foods, but liquidity on the part of some important markets buyers”, it explains the note published to the press and signed by the president of the entity, Francisco Turra.
The trump card of the section for this year is the work accomplished in 2008 for the opening of new markets as India and China and the inclusion of the segment of animal production among meditated them by the green-yellow drawback, that it exempts of federal taxes the raw materials and inputs used in the products destined to the export.
This year, the work will concentrate on a priority calendar already defined, with focus in the opening of the markets of Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, Jamaica, Philippines, Senegal and Algeria.

Chicken cuts
In the accumulated January-December the embarkments were of 1,9 million tons, 5% above in the comparison with the same period of 2007, and the income reached US$ 3,6 billion, a growth of 30%.
Whole chicken
Along 2008 the embarked volumes totaled 1,3 million tons, with an increase of 14,5%, and the exchange income added US$ 2,2 billion, a growth of 53%.
Other segments
In the accumulated of 2008 the exports of hindustrialized chicken added 169 thousand tons, with income of US$ 531 million. In the salty meats the embarkments reached 209 thousand tons, with an exchange income of US$ 596 million.
Acting in destiny markets (January-December)
Middle East
The embarkments totaled 1,1 million tons, with increment of 13%, and the income on those 12 months reached US$ 1,9 billion, an increase of 46% on the same period of last year.
Asia
For this area the embarkments added 936 thousand tons in the 12 months of 2008, an increase of 15%. The exchange income, of US$ 1,9 billion, increased 62% in the comparison with the same period in 2007.
European union
The exports were of 526 thousand tons, what meant a fall of 6% in the comparison with January-December of 2007. The exchange income added US$ 1,4 billion, with increase of 8%.
South America
Between January and December 329 thousand tons were exported, what corresponds an increase of 90%. The exchange income, that it added US$ 557 million in the period, had an increment of 157%.
Africa
The exports were of 250 thousand tons, with a fall of 4,5%. The income added US$ 269 million, with increase of 15%.
Russia
To this market 159 thousand tons were exported until December, what represents a fall of 18% in the comparison with the same period in 2007. But the income, of US$ 309 million, had a growth of 3,6%.
