Small organic producers access European market

With the first export of "biodinamic" kiwi of Brazil to Europe the Brazilian market of organic products consolidates the potential of these products in the international market and attracts the other buyers' attention for the safe offer of organic and biodinamics, whose demand grows strongly in a lot of areas of the world. The project is a partnership among to Apex-Brazil, Organics Brasil and SOS Comex, that negotiates the products externally.

“The professionalization of the market of organic and the seriousness of the local producers - that assist to the legal determinations with the demanded international certifications - are strengthening at the external markets a project driven to four hands in Brazil", affirms Alethea Macena, of SOS Comex. "They are producing, companies, entities and government classes that, together, are making possible Brazil as market exporter of organic products".

"Former-incubated" of the Center of Business Innovation of ISAE/FGV, in Paraná, SOS Comex is captaining successful negotiations outside. Headquartered in Curitiba, and since 2003 working to develop personalized actions of export and import, the company has know-how in the area and experience in the international market. It is one of the co-responsible ones for the success of external businesses that producers and companies associated to the project Organics Brasil are picking since 2005 in markets as United States, Japan, Korea and Europe. Besides the embarkment of biodinamic kiwi, SOS Comex made possible this year the first embarkment of brown sugar to Japan, one of the largest consuming markets of this product in the world.

Founded in 2005, Organics Brasil already contributed that 60 Brazilian companies executed businesses of small, medium and big load in the international market. With the support of Apex-Brazil, that guarantees the presence of producers and companies of the sector in international fairs, the project got to advance in more than six months the results of negotiations and sales waited for the year. In the first months of 2008, the volume of exports negotiated among the companies associated to the project and external customers overcame the mark of US$ 27 million projected for the year.

Apex-Brazil gives support so that companies and associates to Organics Brasil participate at the international fairs. The project also receives support from the Institute of Promotion to the Development (IPD) and of the Federation of the Industries of Paraná (FIEP). "THE objective of the project Organics Brasil is to stimulate that producers and companies of the sector grow at this market. We neither financed projects nor the commercialization of products. The one that we do is to guarantee the necessary support so that these companies and producers specialize and perfect their businesses, earning a living", affirms Organics Brazil's coordinator, Ming Liu.

Kiwi - The first Brazilian remittance of biodinamic kiwi - certified by IBD, as it demands the international market - it happened in June. They were 20 tons of the variety Bruno embarked in Paranagua Port (PR).

Give in July to the European market, the kiwi produced at the Vale do Tigre Ranch, in the area of Cerro Negro (SC), already entered in tasting in different markets, standing out among other varieties of the fruit consumed at those countries. More prolonged, with larger C vitamin tenor and more citric, kiwi of Bruno variety proceeded to Europe with the mark of the ranch printed in stamp that identifies Brazil as origin.

Wrapped in two versions - boxes of 8 kilos and personalized trays of 400 grams - the load will also conquer the market with the signature of the European mark. Outside, it is competing with more precocious varieties of kiwi produced in markets leaders as New Zealand and Italy. Its differential one, however - until six months to be consumed (shelf life), with the same quality and resistance, besides the additional tenors of C vitamin -, is due to the resistance of the variety Bruno and to the biodinamic  production  system.

Vale do Tigre Ranch is a Organics Brasil associated since the creation of the project in 2005. Until the moment, it is the only to conquer the certification of biodinamic kiwi for IBD in this production system in the country. What gives it the right of printing the Demeter stamp, internationally recognized. Luismar Martins Pinto and Lucilda Pereira, majority proprietors of the ranch, are an example of the persistence of the small producers in to develop and to reach results with organic in the internal and external market.

The couple began the planting of organic kiwi in 1995, they picked the first harvest of a ton four years later. The growth of the production didn't stop more. In 2007 they were almost 60 tons and this year the forecast is to arrive to 100 t.. In the market, this growth associated to the quality of the products and to the trust in the commercialization process executed by SOS Comex guaranteed new results. In 2009, the Vale do Tigre Ranch should reserve half of its production to the European market. Other organic producers are following the same road, putting their products in more international markets.
